TIMELINE

History of Graphic Design led by Doug Scott

I was assigned one landmark designer in design history and was allowed to choose one current designer that I look up to. I was then to create a historical timeline in the form of an accordion book comparing and contrasting the different aspects of the two designer’s lives as well as informing the reader of contemporary events during that time period.

Barbara Stauffacher Solomon was my assigned designer, and she was famous for her work on Sea Ranch, supergraphics, and her contributions to the California art scene.

I chose Pum Lefebure, the co-founder of Design Army, a design agency based in Washington, DC (my home!), and I have been a longtime admirer of her work and her efforts to transform DC into a creative center.

INSPIRATION BEHIND THE FORM
The large shapes in the background were inspired by Solomon’s Waves sketch series project (left). I adopted a bold, saturated palette for the shapes to pay homage to bright nature of her supergraphics.
